'The Messenger' is my going to be my first NFT that will be minted on Opensea today, July 13th 2021. I have been working digitally for many years (decades actually!). So I'm really excited to find a marketplace that supports digital artists and a platform to exhibit my artwork.
I work on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil but only after countless sketches and thumbnail paintings have been made the old fashioned way with graphite and paint. I then use mainly Procreate or Affinity Designer to create my final pieces.
Everyone asks me what inspires me, which I always find a bit tricky to come up with an adequate answer. I work from stream of consciousness sketches that are sometimes based on mythology or folklore but more often than not they just arrive in front of me in my sketchbook. 'The Messenger' announced itself this way. So, don't ask me what the message is or who it's being delivered to, I like people to make up their own stories.
This is the initial sketch but I reworked the bird in Procreate. See below for a quick time-lapse video of the bird I created.
Getting your head around the whole world of cryptocurrencies, the blockchain and non fungible tokens is a bit of a learning curve. Finding out that I had to buy Ethereum and pay gas fees nearly blew my mind. I'm still learning so if you want to share your experiences and tips please leave a comment.
I have verified this artwork with Verisart which gives artists an extra level of protection by issuing a certificate to verify that you are the creator and owner of your work. This can then be transferred to a new owner if you sell your work.
